    Braddigan Visits Japan

This week we hosted a Christian music group named "Braddigan". The lead singer, Brad Corrigan, was formerly in a band called 'Dispatch' and I understand that the group was quite popular. Brad and Ray - thank you for the concert and fellowship! You can check out their music and ministry at:

    Saving Grace, Then Holiness

Can holiness save us? Can holiness do away with sin? Cover iniquities? Become a payment for transgressions? Pay our debt to God? No, not a bit. God forbid that I should ever say so. Holiness can do none of these things. The holiest saints are all “worthless servants”. Our purest works are no better than filthy rags, when tried by the light of God’s holy law. The white robe which Jesus offers, and faith puts on, must be our only righteousness-the name of Christ our only confidence-the Lamb’s book of life our only title to heaven. With all our holiness we are no better than sinners. Our best things are stained and tainted with imperfection. They are all more or less incomplete, wrong in the motive or defective in the performance. “No child of Adam will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph 2:8-9).

    MySpace - Warning to Parents

Parents of teenagers should be cautioned about their children's use of the mega-popular online community called "MySpace". Dateline NBC recently did a special report about how easy it would be for an online predator to find out all kinds of intimate personal information about your son or daughter simply by becoming their online "friend". Be sure to watch all four clips of the segment entitled "MySpace Invaders".

    A Voice in the Wilderness

If you have the spiritual stomach to handle it, here's a powerful message given to a group of about 5000 youth by a missionary named Paul Washer of HeartCry Missionary Society that should be a solemn wake-up call to the majority of professing evangelicals living in the West. The link was found at the Sermon Audio website.

    A Talented Artist!

His name is Julian Beever and he is one of the most talented sidewalk artisits that you're likely to come across. We saw many such artists at work while living in Europe but none compared to these amazing images. For more, check out Julian's website:

    Drifting Toward Compromise

People do not drift toward Holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated.

    3 Year Anniversary!

September 5th marked the three year anniversary of our family's arrival to Yokosuka, Japan. It has been a wonderful, challenging, and rewarding experience to share the good news of Jesus Christ with US Navy personnel here in Yokosuaka. We also wish to thank all of you who visit our webpage on a regular basis. We began this blog exactly one year ago today in September of 2005 and we have registered nearly 25,000 visitors! Thanks for your support and prayers.

    The Hypocrisy of Islam

Should the Pope, or anyone else for that matter, apologize for telling the truth about the false prophet Muhammad or the oppressive and violent history of Islam? I don't think so.

    Welcome Home USS Kitty Hawk

    Dear Friends and Supporters,

Here are some ministry highlights from the last week:

    • The USS Kitty Hawk returned from a four month deployment on the high seas. We were so encouraged to see familar faces walk through our doors on Friday night as we enjoyed a wonderful homecoming. With the "Hawk" back in port, our attendance shot up to over sixty at our last Bible study.
    • Christian recording artist Dennis Agajanian was our special guest at the Lighthouse last Friday night. He played to a full house and gave a powerful challenge to those in attendance to live for Christ with boldness. Check out his music and ministry website at www.dennisagajanian.com
    • The chapel hosted a new men's prayer breakfast on Saturday morning which drew nearly forty men for our kick-off. We were blessed to hear music from Dennis Agajanian and a solid devotional from a retired sub commander named Kai Repsholdt. Pray that God would increase our numbers and the scope of our impact on the Yokosuka community.
    • Hope and Jenna started their new school year with Rebekah Hagar and absolutely loved it! We are so blessed to have Rebekah as our new teacher and she is already feeling quite at home here at the Lighthouse. God is faithful!
    • Paul began leading a new Contemporary Praise service at the base chapel last Sunday night. He will be working alongside Chaplain Robert Bradshaw, one of two new chaplains who have recently moved to our community.
    • Saturday night we hosted about twenty five people for another "Gourmet Pizza Night" at the ministry center. Everyone was rolling in dough!! (Paul made his specialty once again - The "PizzaQ". A delicious pizza made with a layer of BBQ sauce, smoked chicken, mozzarella cheese, and once cooked, topped with a layer of cold sour cream, chopped tomatoes, and chopped iceberg lettuce...mmmmmmmm)
    • Paul will be baptizing at least three individuals sometime in the next two weeks once we find a practical location. Thank you for your prayers! God is at work and we give Him all the glory.

    Our Two Precious Gifts

Their names are Hope and Jenna, our two precious gifts from God. As they continue to grow more and more into delightful young ladies, I feel a strange mixture of thanksgiving and sadness. Thanksgiving because the Lord has blessed Stacy and I with two of the most wonderful girls we could have ever have hoped to be blessed with. Sadness because they seem to be growing up way to fast! Over the years, they have made us laugh, cry, worry, and rejoice - sometimes all in one day. Hope is a deep thinker, an avid reader, and she has a very passionate heart. She is wonderful with newborn babies and little children and I believe that she will be a fantastic mother one day. Jenna...hmmm...I suppose that I would describe Jenna as limitless energy, joy, and zest for life all rolled up into one. She literally bounces and skips everywhere she goes like Tigger! She is seldom without a smile, or a joke, or an idea about how to play some fun make-believe games like 'restaurant', 'shopping mall', or 'house'. Jenna loves to help Mom in the kitchen, especially when it comes to baking cookies, cakes, or anything chocolate (just like her Dad!). All in all, I'd say I have the two most special girls in the entire world and I love them more and more every day. God is good!!

    The Winds of Change

Well, the good news is that it looks like typhoon Ioke is going to take a sharp turn to the north in the next couple of days and spare us the high winds we were expecting. That's a relief to everyone here in Japan. The bad news, or should I say, the 'sad' news, is that we are having to say farewell to our dear friends - Joel, Mary, baby Nathan, and Zorian tomorrow morning. It will be very different around here without them but we know that it is time for them to move on to their next great adventure of faith. Zorian and Mayumi will be getting married in Colorado in late December and he plans to attend evening classes at Colorado Christian University while working part time. They are praying about the opportunity to come back to Japan some day as missionaries to the Japanese people. Joel and Mary will be spending the next few weeks visiting with family in Michigan and Colorado before settling down. At this stage, they are not certain where they plan to live so please keep them in your prayers. We wish them the very best in Christ Jesus and we know that God will continue to use them to be a blessing to others wherever He leads them. Lastly, I wish to thank Mary for three wonderful years of investing her life into our precious girls! You've become like a big sister to Hope and Jenna and we cannot thank God enough for the impact that you have had on them. We love you very much and we will miss you dearly :-(

Finally, we wish to express our deep appreciation for all those who have been praying with us for our new school teacher, Rebekah Hager. By God's grace and provision, we picked her up at Narita International Airport on Thursday!!! God provided for nearly all of her remaining support in just a few short weeks allowing her to join us on the field before the Koedykers left. This provided an opportunity for Mary to sit down with Rebekah to fill her in on Hope and Jenna's academic progress during the last three years and to make some basic goals for the next school year. God is faithful! Rebekah - Welcome to Japan!!

    Super Typhoon Ioke

Here it comes! Our first typhoon of the season is expected to hit the shores of Yokosuka/Tokyo on Tuesday APT. The storm system has sustained winds of 130 MPH and gusts up to 160 MPH. We are taking precautions by keeping water on hand, filling the vans with gas, and making sure that everything outside is stored away. Lord willing, the storm will take a more northerly course over the next couple of days but it appears that, for now, the system is predicted to pass right over us. Thanks for your prayers and please check in for updates.

"When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain,
and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses."

    Jeremiah 10:13
