    Saturday in China Town

Today we took a group of friends from the Lighthouse to try out a new Brazilian BBQ restaurant called "Travesso Grill" located in the heart of China Town near Yokohama. We had heard good things about this place but our expectations were wonderfully surpassed by the food, the service, and the creative decor. The meat was simply out of this world!! Afterwards we walked aroung China Town and enjoyed taking pictures, shopping, and good fellowship. We've decided that Travesso Grill will be a popular place with the Lighthouse community from now on. Bible study last night was very encouraging even though the majority of our group is out to sea on various ships. Please keep them in your prayers. Have a great week!

    The Trinity

God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost isn't a consulting firm we bring in to give us expert advice on how to run our lives. The gospel life isn't something we learn about and then put together with instructions from the manufacturer; it's something we become as God does his work of creation and salvation in us and as we accustom ourselves to a life of belief and obedience and prayer.

    More from Francis Schaeffer...

The Christian is the real radical of our generation, for he stands against the monolithic, modern concept of truth as relative. But too often, instead of being the radical, standing against the shifting sands of relativism, he subsides into merely maintaining the status quo. If it is true that evil is evil, that God hates it to the point of the cross, and that there is a moral law fixed in what God is in Himself, then Christians should be the first into the field against what is wrong.

Knowing Jesus vs Knowing 'About' Jesus

When I have sadly misunderstood Him? (see John 20:11-18 ). It is possible to know all about doctrine and still not know Jesus. A person’s soul is in grave danger when the knowledge of doctrine surpasses Jesus, avoiding intimate touch with Him. Why was Mary weeping? Doctrine meant no more to her than the grass under her feet. In fact, any Pharisee could have made a fool of Mary doctrinally, but one thing they could never ridicule was the fact that Jesus had cast seven demons out of her (see Luke 8:2 ); yet His blessings were nothing to her in comparison with knowing Jesus Himself. ". . . she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. . . . Jesus said to her, ’Mary!’ " ( John 20:14, 16 ). Once He called Mary by her name, she immediately knew that she had a personal history with the One who spoke. "She turned and said to Him, ’Rabboni!’ " ( John 20:16  ).

    Our week thus far...

It's Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Hope and Jenna are on base at the Chapel of Hope enjoying VBS with Stacy. Stacy is a "Team Captain" and she said she really likes her group of kids. Our girls love this year's program and have enjoyed meeting new friends. I am presently working on my inductive study in the book of Colossians, chapter 2 verses 1-7. Many new faces have been introduced to our ministry in recent weeks for which we give thanks. Mary, Joel, and Zorian are leaving for the States in only 19 days! It will be hard to see them go but we thank the Lord for their ministry here over the last few years. Anyone care to come be a worship intern for one year?? Rebekah Hager, the girl's new school teacher, is furiously trying to raise the remainder of her support so that she may join us before the new school year in September. She still needs approximately $1,300 per month. If you feel lead to support her, please contact us ASAP. Thank you!

Are we worshipping in Spirit and in Truth?

A generation of Christians reared among push buttons and automatic machines is impatient of slower and less direct methods of reaching their goals. We have been trying to apply machine-age methods to our relations with God. We read our chapter, have our short devotions, and rush away, hoping to make up for our deep inward bankruptcy by attending another gospel meeting or listening to another thrilling story told by a religious adventurer lately returned from afar. The tragic results of this spirit are all about us. Shallow lives, hollow religious philosophies, the preponderance of the element of fun in gospel meetings, the glorification of men, trust in religious externalities, quasi-religious fellowships, salesmanship methods, the mistaking of dynamic personality for the power of the Spirit; these and such as these are the symptoms of an evil disease, a deep and serious malady of the soul.
