    All Hands On Deck

The new deck is complete! The entire project took no longer than four days as we put down a foundation of concrete footers on gravel, 2x6 cross beams, 2x6x10 treated boards for the floor, and 2x4x10 lengths of wood used for the hand railings. The deck adds so much to the overall aesthetic appearence of the ministry center and I praise God for the help that I received, especially from my friend, LT Dave Wilcox.

Last night (Wednesday) we had a fantastic time of fellowship, worship, and teaching at our dinner and Bible study. Zorian taught out of Colossians 1 for the men's study and the women are finishing up a video series entitled "The Testing of Your Faith" by Bruce Wilkinson. Ryan and Elizabeth brought several new friends from their ship, the USS Fitzgerald whose names are Alisha, Grant, Carl, and another sailor named Emily off the USS Mustin. I would also like to welcome Matt from the USS Vandegrift.

God is so good and He continues to show Himself faithful to us in our ministry here in Yokosuka. Thank you for your prayers and support!

    CNN on the Apocalypse

According to a recent video segment posted at CNN.com, it appears that the Middle East crisis is prompting many people to wonder if we are indeed living in the days just prior to the Lord's return.

    Friday - July 21

This evening the Lord brought a wonderful group together at the Lighthouse for fellowship, worship, and Bible study. It was the largest group we have had in the last several weeks for which we give thanks. I had the privilege of dedicating Nicholas Matthew Cardinale and his parents, Nick and Mel, to the Lord before the assembly. Afterwards, we enjoyed worshipping the Lord in song and digging into God's Word. My lesson, entitled "A Right Response to Sin", was taken from Proverbs 28:13-14 where we are told that those who 'confess and forsake' their sin will find compassion from the Lord.

    Other news:
    • Grant's surgery on Thursday was a complete success! God is good.
    • Grace returned home after a long TDY assignment
    • Joel's mother and sister are visiting from the States (sharing baby Nathan!)
    • Zorian and the Koedykers will be leaving us in early September :-(
    • Work on our new deck begins on July 27th - Volunteers are needed
    • Dave Wilcox will be visiting Japan from July 27 - August 3

    Prayer and Fasting

"Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God."

    Streaming CNN News

For those of you who live overseas and have no cable or satallite TV in English available to you, you may want to check out a fairly new online service called "CNN Pipeline". Pipeline offers four channels of live streaming news 24/7 without any commercial breaks. The service costs $24.95 for an entire year which is very reasonable considering the fact that it is live news and without commercial breaks. If you want to keep up with world news without purchasing a satellite dish or cable service, you may want to look into CNN Pipeline. At the moment, I'm watching live coverage of the developing conflict in Israel.

    Suds of Fun

The girls took some time to 'help' Zorian wash both of our vans yesterday. Looks like they had more fun washing themselves!

    Who's the group?

Some of you have asked who the music group is in the video when our homepage opens. Their name is 'Building 429' and they just came out with their second album entitled "Rise". The name of the song on the video is entitled "Fearless" and it was produced in honor of two real life missionaries, Tim Scott and Will Decker, who have taken the Gospel to the far corners of the earth. Their televised missions journey is entitled "Travel the Road".

    How were O.T. believers saved?

One of our favorite pastimes here at the Lighthouse is to kick back in our leather chairs and discuss matters of theology. This afternoon I was discussing with one of my interns the fact that one must be 'born again' by the Holy Spirit in order to be saved. We both agreed. Then we discussed what it meant for disciples to be saved before the Spirit was sent at Pentecost. Were the Lord's disciples born again before Pentecost? What about the woman at the well? Or how about Abraham? Were these men and women also 'born again'? If they were not, how could they be saved? In fact, if not, how could anyone be saved before Pentecost? These are the things we like to debate on lazy Saturday afternoons here at the Lighthouse.

    In God We 'Must' Trust

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."

    Patrick Henry

"The patriot who feels himself in the service of God, who acknowledges Him in all his ways, has the promise of Almighty direction, and will find His Word in his greatest darkness, a lantern to his feet and a lamp unto his paths.' He will therefore seek to establish for his country in the eyes of the world, such a character as shall make her not unworthy of the name of a Christian nation...."

    Revelation and Obedience

All God's revelations are sealed to us until they are opened to us by obedience. You will never get them open by philosophy or thinking. Immediately you obey, a flash of light comes. Let God's truth work in you by soaking in it, not by worrying into it. Obey God in the thing He is at present showing you, and instantly the next thing is opened up. We read tomes on the work of the Holy Spirit when... five minutes of drastic obedience would make things clear as a sunbeam. We say, "I suppose I shall understand these things some day." You can understand them now: it is not study that does it, but obedience. The tiniest fragment of obedience, and heaven opens up and the profoundest truths of God are yours straight away. God will never reveal more truth about Himself till you obey what you know already. Beware of being wise and prudent.

    New School Teacher!

That young lady on the left in the opening frame is Rebekah Hager, our new home school teacher for Hope and Jenna. We spent a couple of hours with Rebekah while we were in CA and she is wonderful! The girls can't wait for the new school year to begin. If you would like to help contribute to Rebekah's monthly support please contact Paul and Stacy. God is faithful!
