March 29 Longing for God"I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain."
C.S. Lewis
March 26 "He sets the captives free!"We celebrate the decision of the Afghan court that ruled to dismiss the case against Abdul Rahman, a 41 year old Afghan man who was facing execution for converting from Islam to Christianity. God has heard the prayers of His people and we thank Him for allowing our brother to go free.

March 23 Welcome Home USS BLUE RIDGE !!!We praise the Lord for the safe return of the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), the Seventh Fleet command ship which has been underway for nearly three months. Many of our Lighthouse regulars are stationed on the Blue Ridge serving their country and, more importantly, serving their Lord. Please pray that God would continue to advance His kingdom on board the Blue Ridge as He empowers His people to proclaim Christ in both word and deed. We are very proud of our men and women serving in the United States Navy and we are blessed to a part of their lives each week.
Welcome Home everyone! We missed you!!

March 22 Christianity on Trial"They want to sentence me to death, and I accept it. But I am not a deserter, and not an infidel, I am a Christian, which means I believe in the Trinity."
Abdul Rahman
This is an amazing story, not only because of this individual's faith, but because of the unbelievable press that this story is getting. Glory be to God! It appears that an Afghan man named Abdul Rahman is standing trial for the crime of converting from Islam to Christianity. His conversion actually happened over sixteen years ago but his faith recently became an issue during a child custody battle with his wife. The world is now watching very closely to see what Afghan President Hamid Karzai will do should he be forced to become a mediator in this sensitive matter.
Please join with me in praying for our brother Abdul Rahman who is being threatened with death because of his faith in Christ. Pray also that the Lord Jesus Christ would receive all the glory as this story unfolds on televisions and newspapers all over the world.

March 21 Reflecting God's Love and Holiness"Increasingly I believe that after we are saved we have only one calling, and that is to show forth the existence and the character of God. Since God is love and God is holy, it is our calling to act in such a way as to demonstrate the existence of God - in other words to be and to act in such a way as to show forth His love and His holiness simultaneously. Further, I believe that the failure to show forth either of these is equally a perversion. Of course, in one's own strength it is only possible to show forth either love or holiness. But to show forth the holiness and love of God simultaneously requires much more. It requires a moment by moment work of the Holy Spirit in a very practical way."
Francis Schaeffer
March 14 The Harvest is PLENTIFUL!"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20
Has the word "Go" ever carried with it more urgency? This was not a casual suggestion given by the Lord to His disciples before He ascended into heaven - it was a command! The question is, have we obeyed our Lord's command? Is my life, my message, and my ministry resulting in new disciples? If not, I must prayerfully seek the Lord's counsel as to why my life and testimony are not producing converts. The Lord would not give me a command to go and make disciples if He were not intent on giving me some degree of success as I move forward to obey the call. With this in mind, it would serve us well to be reminded of what exactly it is that the Lord has asked us to do. According to our text, the task of 'making disciples' involves four clear steps:
1. We must "remember" - that God has given Jesus Christ, who is the Head of the church, "all authority". He will build His church and His Gospel will prevail! What an encouragement!!
2. We must "Go" - Disciple makers must leave their home each morning with a sense of mission: to proclaim the Gospel in both word and deed. We have a message to declare!
3. We must "baptize" - Baptism symbolizes the spiritual death and resurrection that the believer has experienced and it identifies them with the local church body - it's a public profession!
4. We must "teach" - We are to teach new disciples everything that we have learned from God's Word. This can be done at church, at Starbucks, and in small groups. If you are not imparting what you have learned to younger believers, then you are missing out on one of the greatest joys of the Christian life!
Of course, none of this will be of any profit unless we commit our lives and ministries to the Lord in prayer throughout each day (Luke 10:2, Ephesians 6:18-19, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, 2 Thessalonians 3:1). The work of evangelism (making disciples) must begin and end on our knees before the Lord. No evangelistic method or enterprise will be successful without the power of prayer and the assistance of God's Holy Spirit. But if we pray trusting that the Lord will keep His promise to "draw all men unto Himself" as we proclaim the message of Christ Jesus to a lost and dying world, then we can be certain that the Lord of the harvest will bless those who labor in His fields. Therefore...Go! and make disciples.

We seldom realize fully that we are sent to fulfill God-given tasks. We act as if we were simply dropped down in creation and have to decide to entertain ourselves until we die. But we were sent into the world by God, just as Jesus was. Once we start living our lives with that conviction, we will soon know what we were sent to do. Henri J. M. Nouwen March 11 Quick Movie ReviewChecked out the movie "8 Below" last week while we were back in the States. The film is supposedly based on a true story although much of what the dogs did while wandering around Antarctica for six months was obviously pure speculation put to film. The most enjoyable part of the picture was seeing what it takes for men and women (and dogs) to survive in an environment where the outside temperature is somewhere close to 40 below! Whether or not the film was shot "on location" at the bottom of the world is unknown to me. Parents...be prepared to have your little ones jump out of their seats and scream when one curious pooch tries to take a look inside of a frozen killer whale!!
The Lighthouse ministry is going well but attendance has been somewhat low during the last few weeks. We're not sure why this is but, nevertheless, new faces contiune to come through our doors each week for which we are thankful. We appreciate all your prayers!
