    Prayer for Healing

    Hi Everyone!
I send you greetings from Littleton, Colorado. Zorian and I arrived here last Tuesday and we have enjoyed some wonderful fellowship with family members and ministry supporters.  Unfortunately, both of us picked up a flu bug on the flight over and have been suffering with cough, congestion, and severe jet lag ever since. I have also lost my voice for the last two days which has been very frustrating! I would like to ask all of you to please pray for our speedy recovery before we get on our next flight to LA to begin our time at the Shepherd's Conference. Pray also that we would get a good night's sleep over the next couple of days. Thank you for your prayers and support! We appreciate all of you very much.

    In Christ,
    Paul

PS - On a note of praise, one of our supporters has generously offered to purchase a new oven for the Lighthouse and have it shipped to Japan! God is so good.

    "USA! USA! USA!"

Have you been watching the 2006 winter olympics!? They're fantastic! My personal favorite is the men's downhill followed by the 'half pipe' snowboard competition. Stacy and the girls love to watch the figure skating. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Jonathan and Amy Wallace for taping the games for us every day (we don't have television at the Lighthouse). I pray that I would take my own spiritual disciplines as seriously as these fine athletes take their physical discipline! Go USA!!!

    Rocky Mountain High!

I would appreciate your prayers as I prepare to travel to the States on February 21. I plan to visit our sending church, Foothills Bible Church, in Littleton, CO for approximately one week before I join Zorian and Joel in southern CA for the 2006 Shepherd's Conference. I am encouraged to be able to visit our home church during their missions emphasis month and trust that the Lord will allow me enjoy some rich fellowship with several of our supporters. I'm also excited about joining with 4000 other pastors and missionaries at the annual Shepherd's Conference in Sun Valley, CA where we will be privileged to hear challenging messages from John MacArthur, Albert Mohler, and R.C. Sproul. Pray also that Stacy and the girls will hold up well while Dad is away for two weeks. Thank you!

    No more 'McRunning'

One hamburger, a large fry, and a large coke followed by a five mile run along the Tokyo Bay. The result? EXTREME indigestion! I thought I was dying about four miles into my run but I forced myself to walk the final mile back to the Lighthouse where I immediately chowed on some fruit flavored TUMS (thank you Mary!!).

Now aren't you glad I shared that with you??

    Have a nice McDay!

    God is Judge

He that judgeth me is the Lord. 1 Cor 4:4

There are four courts of trial.

First: Man's judgment.--It is significantly spoken of as man's "day." Our conduct is narrowly scrutinized and weighed by many eyes which we know not of, but which are fixed on every act and word--the eyes of our neighbors, associates, fellow-work people, servants. They are ever reasoning about us, comparing our lives with our professions, partly with the view of excusing themselves, if there is any gross inconsistency. But, after all, their verdict need not greatly move us. It is only for a day.

Second: The judgment of fellow- Christians. --We are perpetually being summoned before the court of the church circle to which we belong; not always because we are inconsistent with our professions, but whenever we overstep the pace at which the majority is slowly moving. To be too zealous, too eager, too earnest, too particular, will, in some Christian communities, expose to a great deal of adverse criticism. But we have not to look right and left to get the sentence of our fellow-believers when we are clearly prompted by the Spirit of God.

Third: The judgment of conscience.--" I judge not mine own self." We are all apt to arraign ourselves at our own bar, and pass verdicts which are altogether favorable, because we compare ourselves with characters and standards inferior to ourselves. It is a great mistake to judge yourself, for even if you score a favorable verdict--if you know nothing against yourself--it is liable to be reversed by the decisions of the Supreme Court.

Fourth: The Lord's judgment.--The Lord will come, bringing to light the hidden things of darkness, and making manifest the counsels of the heart.

    The Sin that Destroys

Here's powerful and timely message for a culture that is drowning in a sea of sexual immorality. According to Dr. John MacArthur, there is nothing more destructive to the spiritual well being of the believer than sexual sin. I pray that we might find encouragement from this sermon and that each of us will be quick to heed the Lord's command to "Flee immorality!" (1 Cor. 6:18).

    Our Motive in Prayer

Our prayer must not be self-centered. It must arise not only because we feel our own need as a burden we must lay upon God, but also because we are so bound up in love for our fellow men that we feel their need as acutely as our own. To make intercession for men is the most powerful and practical way in which we can express our love for them.

    Nice work Steelers

Although we just about cried watching them beat up on our Broncos, I admire the way they played their hearts out all season long to win the BIG one! Congratulations Bill!!

    Pan Pacific Tennis 2006

Last Thursday Stacy took me to Tokyo to enjoy a full day of women's professional tennis at the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tournament. It was a gift for our 11th wedding anniversary. We had great seats and enjoyed watching the likes of Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova, and Ana Ivanovic tear up the courts. If you enjoy tennis, I highly recommend attending a professional match sometinme this spring or summer if any tournaments are being hosted in your area. See the link below for tournament updates.

    "End of the Spear" Controversy

A new controversy has been developing in the Christian community surrounding the newly released film entitled "End of the Spear". The independent film dramatically portrays the true life story of five missionaries who gave their lives for the sake of the Gospel in Ecuador back in the 1950's (see my posting dated January 7). Why all the fuss? It seems that the individual playing the lead role in the movie, that of one of the martyred missionaries named Nate Saint, is actually a practicing homosexual. The actor's name is Chad Allen. How should the Christian community respond to this? What should be our role as we enter into dialogue with those who will eventually hear about this issue? I encourage you to read a well written response from Randy Alcorn at his 'Eternal Perspectives' ministry website that addresses this matter with wisdom, Christian love, and tactfulness.
