    A Time for Thanksgiving

It's that time of the year again! The holidays here at the Lighthouse are always a time of rich celebration as many sailors and their families join us for a number of festivities. This Thursday we will be hosting over sixty people for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner including five turkeys (two fried!), one large ham, stuffing, potatoes, and a variety of homemade pies. On Friday we will host our usual dinner fellowship as we continue our study through 1 Corinthians. At the moment we are looking at chapter eleven where Paul discusses authority in the church and women's head coverings. These are the kind of passages that challenge me to dig deep into God's Word and they always spark a great deal of discussion during the study.

This Saturday is "Deck the Halls" day when several single sailors and a few couples will help us decorate the Lighthouse for the Christmas season. It's always a fun time and it helps to provide some much needed comfort to sailors who are missing being at home for the holiday season. On Sunday I will meet with ten individuals who hope to join me for a missions trip to the Ukraine next April. Our plan is to meet up with my friend, Bruce Dower, who is one of the leaders of a Cadence International project called "The Lands of Russia". After we arrive, our goal is to help do some church restoration, put together a VBS program for the children, and participate in nightly worship meetings with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. Please pray that the Lord would provide all the funds necessary for our team to go. Thank you.

"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
    1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    Don't just talk...Preach!

"I would say that a 'dull preacher' is a contradiction in terms; if he is dull he is not a preacher. He may stand in a pulpit and talk, but he is certainly not a preacher."

"The man who is called by God is a man who realizes what he is called to do, and he so realizes the awefulness of the task that he shrinks from it. Nothing but this overwhelming sense of being called, and of compulsion, should ever lead anyone to preach."

    Hope for the Prisoners

"Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body."
    Hebrews 13:3

This morning I will once again have the joy of proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to several young men, US Servicemembers, who are presently serving anywhere from 3-15 years at a local Japanese prison for committing crimes against Japanese citizens. I have had the privilege of meeting with these men for over two years now and I have personally winessed the power of God at work in many of their lives. I'm especially thankful for a young man named Jose who prayed to trust Christ with me several months ago and has been growing strong in his walk with Christ ever since. Please pray that many more will respond to the Gospel in the months ahead. Thank you!

    Wednseday Bible Study

Last Wednesday the women concluded their study in Revelation entitled "A Vision of His Glory", a video series by Ann Grahm Lotz. Stacy told me that the women were very encouraged by the study and that their discussion and prayer sessions after the video segments had been spiritually rewarding. The men's group has been enjoying an inductive study in the book of Colossians for the last two months. At our last meeting we were all stirred in our hearts as we discussed the priority prayer and the importance of righteous conduct and speech as we seek to be effective witnesses to those outside of Christ (Col. 4:2-18). The best part of all was studying the character traits of Paul's "Band of Brothers" such as Tychicus, Epaphras, and Aristarchus. After our study, I was joined by seven other men in the downstairs library for a Spirit led time of prayer that lasted about an hour. The Lord is moving in our midst! We appreciate your standing with us in prayer and trust that God will continue to bless our ministry as we seek to glorify Him.

    Effectual Prayer

For this sin hungry age we need a prayer-hungry Church. We need to explore again the "exceeding great and precious promises of God." In "that great day," the fire of judgment is going to test the sort, not the size, of the work we have done. That which is born in prayer will survive the test. Prayer does business with God. Prayer creates hunger for souls; hunger for souls creates prayer. The understanding soul prays, the praying soul gets understanding. To the soul who prays in self-owned weakness, the Lord gives His strength...Lord, let us pray.

    Puppy Love

We have a new family member! Her name is "Gracie" and she is an adorable, solid black, minature Schnauzer that we picked up at a local pet store on Tuesday. We surprised the girls with her on Hope's 11th birthday and they were both ecstatic! Hope told me with tears in her eyes, "This is the best birtrthday present ever!" This, of course, made our day as parents.
