    Happy Birthday Hopey!!!

Today we celebrated Hope's 11th birthday with a waffle breakfast, opening presents, and only a half day of school. To top things off, we surprised Hope and Jenna after lunch with a new puppy!! Her name is "Gracie" and she is just cute as a button. Gracie is a four month old miniature Schnauzer with a beautiful solid black coat of fur and an adorable face. Pictures coming soon. The birthday celebration actually started last night when we took a van load of kids and adults to a brand new California Pizza Kitchen near Yokohama. The food was delicious and Hope said that it was one of her most memorable birthday celebrations ever. Hopey...We love you!!!!

    What's Your Mission?

"God is pursuing with omnipotent passion a worldwide purpose of gathering joyful worshippers for Himself from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. He has an inexhaustible enthusiasm for the supremacy of His name among the nations. Therefore, let us bring our affections into line with His, and, for the sake of His name, let us renounce the quest for worldly comforts and join His global purpose."

    John Piper

"People who do not know the Lord ask why in the world we waste our lives as missionaries. They forget that they too are expending their lives ... and when the bubble has burst, they will have nothing of eternal significance to show for the years they have wasted."

    Nate Saint

"I believe that in each generation God has called' enough men and women to evangelize all the yet unreached tribes of the earth…. It is not God who does not call. It is man who will not respond!"

    Isobel Kuhn

"This generation of Christians is responsible for this generation of souls on the earth!"

    God's Saving Grace in Japan

Last Saturday afternoon our friend, Yukie Ida, asked if she might talk with Stacy and I for a few minutes to share something that was on her heart. Another Japanese believer named Mayumi joined us for the discussion. As Yukie began to tell us what was on her mind, it became apparent that the Lord had been working on her heart for many weeks and that she was finally ready to trust Christ as her Savior. We all held hands as Stacy led her in a sinner's prayer which was followed by tears, hugs, and rejoicing. God is faithful!

"There will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." Luke 15:7

    Anchor's Away!

Early this week the USS Kitty Hawk pulled up anchor and headed out to sea along with several other cruisers for a deployment (underway) that will likely last several weeks. With all that is going on with our Korean neighbor to the North, I wonder where they could be heading? Hmmm, I wonder. Anyway, with most of the fleet out to sea, our ministry usually shrinks by about two thirds at our Wednesday and Friday night Bible studies. Long underways provide us with an opportunity to catch our breath and allows us to spend a little more time with our family. Even so, we expect anywhere from 20-30 individuals to attend our weekly Bible studies and we are likely to see new faces come through our doors each week. Thank you for keeping us supported with your prayers each month, we appreciate them more than you'll ever know. Please feel free to drop us a line at out chat room (left) and stop by our prayer room link for recent prayer request updates. Have a great weekend!

Darfur 2006 - A call to Action and Prayer

The Lighthouse ministry continues to put the spotlight on the thousands of refugees who are suffering each and every day in the region of Darfur located on the western side of Sudan. Please continue to pray for the men, women, and children who are in desperate need of food, water, clothing, tents, medical supplies, safety from violence, and most of all, Jesus Christ. Below are some video clips to help you understand a little more of what is happening in Darfur. The only thing that can make the situation worse is for us to put it out of our minds. Please contact Samaritan's Purse if you would like more information on providing financial or prayer support. Thank you!

    Don't Be Lazy in Prayer

How often have we prayed something like, "O Lord, be with cousin Billy now in a special way"? Have we stopped to consider what it is we're requesting? Imagine that you are a parent who is preparing to leave your children with a babysitter. Would you dream of saying, "O Betsy, I ask you now that you would be with my children in a special way?" No way. You would say, "Betsy, the kids need to be in bed by 9 pm. They can have one snack before their baths, and please make sure they finish their homework. You can reach us at this number if there's any problem. Any questions before we go?" We are very specific with our requests and instructions for our babysitters. We want them to know specifics. It should be no different with prayer.

    Exploring Odaiba

Daiba, literally meaning "fort", refers to some of the man made islands in the Bay of Tokyo, which were constructed in the end of the Edo Period (1603-1868) for the city's protection against attacks from the sea.

During the extravagant 1980s, a spectacular redevelopment of the islands into a futuristic business district was started, but development was critically slowed down after the burst of the "bubble economy" in the early 1990s.

It was not until the second half of the 1990s, that Odaiba developed into one of Tokyo's most interesting tourist spots and the highly popular shopping and entertainment district, which it is today.
