Women's Retreat - well, two of them!

I (Stacy) enjoyed times of refreshment at the PWOC Women's Retreat at Lake Yamanaka over my birthday weekend and then followed it with another retreat at the New Sanno with the Cadence ladies from this area. Joyce Schroeder blessed us all with her presence and teaching. How grateful I am for Joyce's wisdom and transparency. I continue to hear great things from the women who attended the retreat! Praise the Lord! In Tokyo, we found an authentic German restaurant called "EX" - well it was a German bar - and we ate GREAT food. We should have split the entrees not just because of the price (very expensive - we chalked it up to the "experience"), but because of the size. Next time, we'll do better! For my birthday, I received 3 gifts for massages - how generous! But, it did make me wonder if I appear to be really stressed out! No really, my friends know how to shower love on me and I was so encouraged by all of the words of affirmation and love and the gifts to make me feel so special!

Tonight we had our first group study on the book "Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free", by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I think we had almost 20 ladies here. I was encouraged by the discussion and interest in the women. It is evident that we all want to break free from the lies that we are believing and live in the truth. I am excited to see what God has in store for all of us!

    Happy Birthday Stacy !!!

I would like to wish my beautiful bride a very happy birthday on this 19th of January, 2007. Stacy - you are such a blessing to me, the girls, and to all the Lighthouse community. Thank you for all that you do to consistently make our home a place that is full of warmth and love. You are truly a gift from God, the best thing that has ever happened to me! Have a wonderful day and a great time at the women's retreat.

    love Paul

    Sushi Day at the Lighthouse

"Oishii!"  That's how you say something tastes good in Japanese. Today we hosted yet another 'Sushi Day' at the Lighthouse to kick off our Saturday activities in 2007. One of our sailors, known as "Chef Billy", put his incredible sushi preparation skills on display for nearly three hours in our crowded kitchen. Our guests included several Japanese students who joined us for the event and they told us that the food was delicious. Personally speaking, I much prefer to look at a beautiful plate of sushi rather than eat it. But almost everyone else in the house enjoyed learning how to prepare various forms of sushi before sitting down to enjoy their creations. Did you see the image of the octopus tentacles? Mmmmmm good!!! (or..."Oishii!")

    2006 Winter Ski Retreat

There's nothing like worshipping God with other believers on top of a snowy mountain! We just enjoyed a three day Bible/ski retreat in beautiful Karuizawa, Japan along with twenty six sailors from the Lighthouse community. The retreat was held at a Christian conference center called Megumi Chalet (Grace House) located in the mountains near Nagano. Hope and Jenna spent two hours with their teacher, Rebekah, learning how to snow board. We're so proud of them!! Our sailors spent time hitting the slopes, shopping at outlet stores, and relaxing at a local onsen. Our speaker was our dear friend, Bob McKemey, who has served as a missionary for over thirty seven years here in Japan with SEND International. His messages were on target and we are still processing the great teaching that we received a week later.
